Loviste

LOVISTE is a village on the southern coast of the Luka bay , in the far north-western part of the Peljesac Peninsula. Loviste has about 300 inhabitants, most of them working in the shipping industry and tourism. Loviste is well known for it's figs, almonds and carob. Many private bed and breakfasts offer guests local culinary specialties, and the beaches here are perfect for a quiet family vacation. In the vicinity of Loviste are numerous small coves (Przna, Cesminova, Krizica, Rasoha, Bezdija) with small and nice pebble beaches. History of Loviste:
In the middle of the 19th century, Loviste was established by settlers from the town Bogomolja on the island of Hvar which is very close to oviste - just across the chanell.In Roman times it was a port on the maritime communication between Korcula (Korkyra Nigra) and Narona (Vid near Metkovic). From that time, traces of a Roman villa rustica have been found in Loviste. There is also the church of the Heart of Mary in Loviste from 1885.
This small fisherman's vaillage is located 17 km away from Orebic, on the route via Kuciste and Viganj. The nearest airport is Dubrovnik Airport (3hrs drive away). Accommodations in Loviste is availabe in rooms , pensions and apartments as well as at camping site.
