LOVISTE is a village on the southern coast of the Luka bay, in the far north-western part of the Peljesac Peninsula right at the very beginning of Peljesac Channel. The village has about 300 inhabitants, most of them working in the shipping industry and tourism. The place is well known for the production of figs, almonds and carob. Many private bed and breakfasts offer guests local culinary specialities and the beaches here are perfect for a quiet family vacation. In the vicinity of Loviste are numerous small coves (Przna, Cesminova, Krizica, Rasoha, Bezdija) with small and nice pebble beaches. In the northern part of the cove of Luka is the hamlet of Mirce, popular with tourists. Mirce is a bay that is a well-protected haven for sailors and passers-by.

History of Loviste:

In the middle of the 19th century, Loviste was established by settlers from the town Bogomolja on the island of Hvar which is just across the channel. In Roman times it was a port on the maritime communication between Korcula (Korkyra Nigra) and Narona (Vid near Metkovic).  From that time, traces of a Roman villa rustica have been found in Loviste. There is also the church of the Heart of Mary from 1885.

This small fisherman’s village is located 17 km from Orebic, on the route via Kuciste and Viganj. The nearest airport is Dubrovnik Airport (3 hrs drive away). Accommodations in Loviste is available in rooms, pensions and apartments as well as a camping site.
